FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM MY DOCTOR TO GET PHYSIOTHERAPY OR ACUPUNCTURE?

NO! Registered Physiotherapists and Registered Acupuncturists are Primary Access Practitioners, which means they are qualified to independently assess and treat you without a physician’s referral.  Some extended benefit plans do require a physician’s referral to reimburse you for these services; it is best to check with your provider before booking your appointment.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST VISIT?

During your first visit, you will complete an intake and health history form, and you will be asked to sign a consent form giving the practitioner permission to assess and treat you.  A history of your current complaint and relevant lifestyle details will be taken, and a physical examination will be conducted.  Based on this information, your practitioner will diagnose your concern and work with you to create a treatment program tailored for you.  You will be educated on appropriate self-help measures, and a brief treatment may be given if indicated.  A detailed receipt will be provided to you at the end of the session, which you can use to submit for reimbursement by your extended benefit plan, if applicable.  At any time during your visit, you may ask questions, or withdraw your consent to continue.

DO YOU OFFER DIRECT BILLING TO MY EXTENDED HEALTH BENFITS PROVIDER?

We do not direct bill your extended benefits provider; however, we provide you with a detailed receipt that you can submit to be reimbursed.  Transcend Physiotherapy and Wellness services are NOT covered by OHIP; we suggest that you enquire about per-session or per-year caps on your coverage before booking your appointment.
