FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

DO I NEED A REFERRAL FROM MY DOCTOR TO GET PHYSIOTHERAPY OR ACUPUNCTURE?
NO! Physiotherapists are ‘Primary Care Practitioners’; this means that they are qualified to independently diagnose and treat your condition without a doctor’s referral. If the physiotherapist believes that your condition is outside of his or her scope of practice, they will refer you to the appropriate health care professional, such as a family physician or sport medicine doctor. Please Note: some extended health benefit providers do require a doctor’s prescription for physiotherapy in order to reimburse the cost of physiotherapy or acupuncture. Please check¬†with your individual provider.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST VISIT?
During your first visit, a Registered Physiotherapist will obtain basic information from you, such as: your birth date, contact information, health history, and details about your current injury or concern. You will be asked to sign a consent form giving the therapist permission to assess, and–if appropriate–treat you. The Physiotherapist will then perform a physical examination, and will ask you to do certain movements and tests. At the end of the exam, your therapist will inform you of your diagnosis and the proposed treatment plan. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. You will receive education about appropriate exercises and self-help measures for your condition, as well as a physiotherapy or acupuncture treatment. If appropriate, follow-up appointments will be arranged. A detailed receipt will be provided to you so that you may submit it for any extended health benefits you may have.

DO YOU OFFER DIRECT BILLING TO MY EXTENDED HEALTH BENFITS PROVIDER?
Unfortunately at this time, we do not offer direct billing to health insurance providers. However; once we receive your payment, you will be issued a detailed invoice which you may then submit to your benefits provider.

MY HOME IS SMALL AND I DON’T HAVE ANY EXERCISE EQUIPMENT. CAN I STILL HAVE¬†TREATMENT IN MY HOME?
YES! Transcend Physiotherapy & Wellness is a fully mobile, fully equipped clinic! Our therapists bring any and all needed equipment to you, including: a treatment table, ultrasound/IFC machines, acupuncture supplies, weights, Therabands, BOSU balls, Swiss Balls, and taping supplies. Our therapists are trained to adapt to the patient’s environment, and they will assess what is appropriate for that patient and his/her space during the initial assessment.
